Abstract

Our study included 100 patients that had undergone ACL reconstruction. The overall incidence of ramp lesions was 9%.Some predictive risk factors were studied, some of which can be correlated as predictive risk factors of ramp lesions as duration of injury where the longer the duration from injury, the more likely ramp lesion will occur in the ACL deficient knee.
Some risk factors weren’t significantly associated with ramp lesion as gender of the patient, the side affected, the mode of injury, the level of activity.
There are no specific MRI signs of ramp lesion but there are signs that indicate that the lesions are more likely to be encountered in the arthroscopic assessment as the presence of perimeniscal fluid, the presence of fluid completely interposed in the meniscus, the vertical tear in the posterior horn of medial meniscus.
Increased medial meniscal slope (measured by MRI) was found to be predictive of the presence of ramp lesion in the ACL deficient knee.
Arthroscopic diagnosis of ramp lesions remains the gold standard diagnostic method. Intercondylar approach through the standard portals is used for the diagnosis.Posteromedial portal was not used in our study but it may be used to enhance the visualization of the posterior zone.
