Abstract

Long standing TM perforations may cause HL and middle ear infection even if they are small in size. The purpose of treatment of traumatic TM perforations is to repair such perforations and eliminate the susceptibility to middle ear infections through the perforation and early return to their daily life without restrictions. PRF represents an ideal graft to repair TM perforation which enhances wound healing and decrease infectionCurrent study was carried out in otorhinolaryngology department of Nasser Institute for Research and Treatment to evaluate the effects of platelet rich fibrin in treating acute traumatic tympanic membrane perforation. This study included 50 patients divided into 2 groups; study group consisted of 25 patients who were treated using platelet rich fibrin and control group included 25 patients who were treated conservatively In our study, all patients had traumatic TM perforation within 7 days. Blood sample was drawn from the patient and centrifuged for preparation of PRF. Under sterile technique, PRF was plugged through the perforation site in the study group and in the control group nothing was done. The patients were followed up for 6 weeks. As statistically proved both groups studied in this study were randomly selected as regard age, sex, perforation side, perforation size, ABG with absence of any statistical differences between both groups pretreatment.
