Abstract

Idiopathic Interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) are a subset of diffuse and restrictive lung diseases resulting from damage to the parenchyma characterized by inflammation and fibrosis of the interstitium. The recent researches proved that the two main possible causes of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias are GENETICS and INFECTION Methods for diagnosis of IIPs can be clinical, radiological (chest x-ray& HRCT), pathological, mycobacterial and pulmonological (FAB& lung biopsy) High Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) offers imaging of the lung with excellent resolution and provides accurate details for its parenchyma. Furthermore HRCT can help in follow up, assessment of prognosis and responsiveness to treatment as well as in localizing the best site for lung biopsy. HRCT is considered one of the essential tools that should be used for the diagnostic evaluation of IIPs. Adding to this, its role will be more noticeable if there is close cooperation between the clinician, radiologist, and pathologist. This study included 20 patients with initial diagnosis of ILD by history , clinical presentation and suspicious chest X-ray evaluated by Multi-detector High Resolution CT.
