Abstract Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that may lead to permanent scarring. Atrophic post-scars develop due to collagen breakdown following inflammatory acne lesions and their severity is related to the degree of inflammation. They are divided clinically into: icepick scars, rolling scars and boxcar scars. Treatment options for atrophic acne scars include retinoids, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, PRP, dermal fillers, and surgical techniques such as subcision, excision, autologous fat transfer, laser treatment and others. Usually post-acne scars can’t be effectively corrected by a single treatment modality because of their widely varied depth, width and structure. Fractional CO2 laser currently appears to be one of the most valuable treatments for post-acne scars. It was used alone and in combination with other treatment modalities such as PRP to enhance its delivery to and through the skin improving therapeutic outcomes. Platelet-rich plasma is generated from autologous blood, and consists of highly concentrated platelets that contain large amounts of various growth factors and cytokines which play key roles in tissue repair and regeneration, and therefore it is considered as a great treatment modality of post-acne scars. |
