Abstract

Thrombosis is one of the leading factors contributing to cardiovascular diseases that cause death worldwide.
<Treatment requires anticoagulant therapy.
With the beginning of the 21stcentury, anticoagulant research has been focused on designinganticoagulant medications targeting specific coagulation factors.
Factor Xa (FXa) has recently emerged as an attractive target for the development of new anticoagulants.
<The impact of medicinal plants on coagulation iswell recognized but not systematically studied. Various FXa inhibitors have been isolated from natural sources as hematophagous organisms that were mainly large molecular weight proteins and peptides.
In this context, this study was adopted to screen selected Egyptian plants aiming to isolate small molecules with direct FXa inhibitory effect and anticoagulant activity.
The work presented in this thesis consists of nine chapters describing the integration of in-silico, in-vitro,and isolation techniques with a final objective of introducing new anticoagulant agents from natural sources.
