Abstract

This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of PRP as a monotherapy and combined therapy with microneedling by dermaroller and AMD in the treatment of different types of skin scars and skin rejuvenation.
Our study included 72 patients, 57 females and 15 males. The 48 patients classified into 2 main groups: group I included 24 patients with post acne scars; group II included 24 patients with skin aging andgroup III included 24 patients withmiscellaneous scars. All patients received 6 sessions at 2 weeks interval.
Regarding post acne scars our study concluded that PRP is safe and effective. The clinical results of our study showed significant improvement with the use of PRP as a monotherapy (p value 0.001) with more significant improvement using combination therapy of PRP with dermaroller (p value = 0.020)and the most significant improvment with PRP plus AMD (p value = 0.001).
Regarding skin rejuvenation A-PRP is a new more natural approach of skin rejuvenation; it is a safe and tolerable procedure. Our study concluded that the clinical results were significant with the use of PRP as monotherapy (p value = 0.001) and insignificant with the use of PRP as combination therapy with dermaroller (p value = 0.140) while the results were significant with combination of PRP plus AMD (p value = 0.017).
Regarding miscellaneous scars our study concluded that PRP is safe and effective. The clinical results of our study gave mild improvement with the use of PRP as a monotherapy and good improvement with combination of PRP plus dermaroller and very good improvement with PRP plus AMD.
In conclusion, the use of PRP and microneedling whether automated or not in treatment of skin scars and skin aging is easy, effective, safe and not expensive method. We hope that this study will encourage clinicians to do further study with longer follow-up and comparing with other treatment modalities.
