Abstract Thirty patients were studied by ultrasound aiming at high-lighting the role of ultrasound in different gastrointestinal tract diseases. Appendix was the most affected site in 9 patients (30%). Stomach was affected in 5 patients (16.6%), small intestine in 8 patients (23.4%) and large Intestine in 8 patients (30%). Appendicular lesions were the most common disease, seen in 9 patients (30%), GIT tumors were seen in 8 patients (26.7%), inflammatory diseases were seen in 5 patients, intestinal Obstruction was seen in 4 patients (13.3%), hyper-trophic pyloric stenosis was seen in 2 patients (6.7%) and intussusception was seen in 2 patients 6.7%).Ultrasound finding in 9 patients with Appendicitis were, dilated tubular structure in 9 patients, non-compressible in 9 patients, aperistaltic structure in 9 patients, seen in the right iliac fossa region in 9 patients. Ultra-sound finding in 8 patients with GIT tumors were, circumferential wall thickening in 7 patients, lumen narrowing seen in 7 patients, polypoidal mas seen in 1 patient only and increased internal vascularity seen in 8patients. Ultra-sound finding in 5 patients with inflammatory bowel diseases were, wall thickening in 5 patients, lumen narrowing seen in 5 patients, intra-peritoneal free Fluid seen in 5 patients, echogenic adjacent fat planes seen in 5 patients. Ultra-sound finding in 4 patients with intestinal obstruction were, dilated intestinal loops in 4 patients, abnormal movement in 4 atients & free fluid seen in between the loops in 1 patient. |
