Abstract The aim of the study was to To investigate the antibacterial effect of ZnO nanocoating on mechanical properties of NiTi orthodontic wires and antibacterial activity of ZnO coated wires against microorganisms.Material and Methods : 0.016x0.022 NiTi orthodontic wires were coated with ZnO nanoparticles using electrochemical deposition method with three electrode system. Antibacterial effect of ZnO coating was investigated. Mechanical properties and frictional resistance of the coated wires were investigated using universal testing machine.The results showed that : A stable and well-adhered ZnO nanocoating on NiTi wires was obtained. The coated wires have significant antibacterial activity against staph. Aureus, strepto.pyogens and E.coli. The coated wires have a 34 % reduction of frictional forces.
