Abstract

The current study tried to compare in-vitro between the flexural strength of pre polymerized milled acrylic and heat cured acrylic samples after being disinfected with PDD as a test group, and 1% NaOCl as a positive control group, while distilled water used as a negative control group.
Measure the flexural strength of each PMMA type after each disinfection, in 4 time interval T as base line, T1 simulating 1 year of usage, T2 simulating 2 years of usage and T3 simulating 3 years of usage.
The results showed that according to material type the heat cured samples had higher flexural strength compared to milled samples.
According to different disinfectants there was insignificant difference between aging periods for all groups and aging periods except for heat cured acrylic after 24 months aging; where NaOCl showed the highest flexural strength, values compared to water and PDD at p=0.0028.
Within the limitation of this study, it was concluded that:
1. Photodynamic disinfection can be used safely to disinfect complete denture, the hypothesis was rejected and null hypothesis was accepted.
2. Regarding this size of samples heat cured acrylic resin showed higher flexural strength than the milled samples
3. Milled samples weren’t affected neither by disinfectants nor by aging periods.
