Abstract

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION Nasal obstruction is a very common complaint which may be caused by various causes. But one of the most important causes is septal deviation. Septoplasty is a common surgical operation to correct a symptomatic deviated septum. One of the most common complications of septoplasty is adhesions formation after operation specially if combined with turbinectomy. Using intranasal splints after setoplasty effectively decreases adhesions formation. The aim of our study was to compare the effect of using versus not using intranasal splints after septoplasty. ▪ It was done on 50 cases having significant septal deviations randomly divided into two groups. ▪ group A (25 patients) had splints inserted at the end of septoplasty. ▪ group B (25 patients) were left without splints inserted at the end of septoplasty. In this study, no significant difference was detected in the preoperative results of both groups regarding the age, sex and nasal obstruction. So, the preoperative circumstances were similar between both groups. The results of our study showed that there were significant differences between both groups regarding adhesions formation and satisfaction of patients with the surgical outcome.
