Abstract The present study was carried study at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Zawyet Elnahora Hospital in Menoufia from March 2017 to June 2018 on 88 participants who are diagnosed as recurrent vaginal candidiasis. Detailing history include: demographics, symptoms & diagnosis of vaginal candidiasis, number of episodes per year treatment received. All patients underwent pelvic examination, direct microscopic examination of the discharge and vaginal culture at their pretreatment assessment visit for diagnosis of vaginal candida and at the end of treatment for detection of mycological cure. After establishing the diagnosis, the subjects were randomly divided into two groups according to random number sequence, first group received oral fluconazole second group received clotrimazole vaginal tablets After initial treatment, they were seen in the clinic fortnightly then every month till end of maintenance treatment. An additional clinic visit was done after the end of maintenance treatment to check for relapsed cases of recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis. In each clinic visit specific symptoms and signs of vaginal candidiasis will be assessed separately The present study revealed a total clinical cure rate 81% for fluconazole group and 76.1% for clotrimazole group. Total Mycological cure rate was 80.5%for group A and 77.3%for group B. The commonest complication in fluconazole group was nausea (7.1%) then dizziness (2.4%). while commonest complication in clotrimazole group was Vaginal burning (10.9%). |
