Abstract Diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disorder in pregnancy with an overall prevalence of 3-7%during pregnancy. Pregnant women with either pre gestational diabetes mellitus or gestational diabetes are at high risk 2-5 times compared to non-diabetic pregnancies of carrying fetus with congenital anomalies such as, cardiac and central nervous system, central and cardiac are prominent due to early development. Hyperglycemia is hypothesized to be the most important teratogen affecting CVS by generating excess reactive oxygen species. |
