Abstract

The present study was carried out at the Nursery of Ornamental plants, Fac. of Agric., Minia Univ., during the two seasons of 2018 and 2019. The aim of the study was how to improve the vegetative and root growth of Antidesma bunius growing in sandy soil and treated with 0, 25, 50 and 100 g/container compost (main plot) and fertilizing plants with 100% NPK, 75% NPK, 75% NPK + M.A., M.A. + phosphorein, 75% NPK+ E.M., E.M. + phosphorein and control.
The obtained results could be summarized as follows:
I-Effect of compost on:
I-A- Vegetative and root growth parameters:
All vegetative and root growth of Antidesma bunius namely, plant height, stem diameter, number of branches/plant, leaves number, leaf area, plant area, stem + branches fresh and dry weights of aerial parts, root length and roots fresh and dry weights/plant were significant increased with compost at three levels 25, 50 and 100 g as compared to control with highest values were obtained by adding 100 g compost/container.
I-B- Chemical composition:
Application of compost at 25, 50 and 100 g/plant significantly increased the three photosynthetic pigments and the percentages of NPK elements. The better treatment was 100 g compost/plant.
II- Effect of bio. and/or mineral NPK fertilization treatments on:
II-A- Vegetative and root growth parameters:
All plants growth tested parameters were significantly increased by used six fertilization treatments. The best over all treatments were 75% NPK + E.M. followed by 100% NPK.
II-B- Chemical composition:
The best treatments were 75% NPK + E.M. followed by 100% NPK. Such superior two treatments gave the highest values of pigments content and NPK % elements.
III-Effect of the interaction treatments on:
III-A- Vegetative and root growth parameters:
The interaction treatments was significant for all tested parameters. The best interaction treatments were 100 g compost × 75% NPK + E.M. or 100 g compost ×100 % NPK.
III-B- Chemical composition:
The interaction between main and sub plots (A×B) were significant for photosynthetic pigments and NPK% elements.
The best interaction treatments were 100 g compost in combination with 75% NPK + E.M. or 100% NPK.
RECOMMENDATION
from our results, it could be recommended to supply the sandy soil of Antidesma bunis seedlings with 100 g. compost/container(20kg sand soil) and fertilized plants with 75% NPK + E.M. or 100% NPK from recommended dose to improve the growth of plants.
