Abstract In this study, thymoquinone and different doses of nanothymoquinone were used as chemopreventive agents to HBP\DMBA carcinogenesis model. The study was carried out on one hundred and seventy male golden Syrian hamsters, which were divided into 7 groups: group “A”: (25 animals) served as negative control and received no treatment. group “B”: (20 animals) positive control group. The left buccal pouch of these animals was painted 3 times\week by the carcinogen (DMBA). Groups “C”, “D”, “E”, “F” and “G”:: 25 animals each were injected with thymoquinone 0.1mg/kg, nanothymoquinone 0.1mg/kg, nanothymoquinone 0.05mg/kg, nanothymoquinone 0.025mg/kg and nanothymoquinone 0.01mg/kg respectively dissolved in propylene glycol daily in the first two weeks. This was followed by combined treatment with DMBA and the preventive agents 3 times\week for 6 weeks. All animals were left untreated for further 2 weeks. Two blood samples were withdrawn from three animals in each group every two weeks, one considered for complete blood count analysis (CBC), and a serum sample for liver and kidney enzymes analysis. The results were then tabulated and statistically analyzed. The treated left pouches and the untreated right pouches were surgically excised, fixed, and processed for H&E stain. |
