Abstract

The study included 76 patients with adhesive capsulitis (38 patients in the IG and 38 patients in the CG). A PT program consisting of superficial heating with hot packs, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for pain relief, ultrasound (US) to heat the joint structures before mobilization techniques, ROM and stretching for the shoulder region to regain the joint mobility and restore function was scheduled for 76 patients for 15 sessions (5 days a week, 3 wks in total) The patients were separated into two groups , SSNB using a catheter was administered before PT to the 38 patients in the injection group (IG), but no injection was administered before PT to the 38 patients in the control group (CG). All patients were assessed for pain and functional status before and immediately after the treatment (at the end of the course of PT sessions), and 1 month later, thus, three times in total, by a researcher blinded to the patient groups. The range of shoulder mobility and functional status were assessed using the Constant Shoulder Scale, which was developed to evaluate functional recovery of the shoulder. When we compared the constant score between the two groups, we noticed that both groups had low score before treatment. The score became higher immediately after treatment and higher 1 month after treatment in both groups but it was higher in the injection group than the control group. That mean more improvement in the injection group than control group.
