Abstract

Chapter I: entitled as “The Urban Development under the reign of Khedive Ismail (r.1863-1879) and it focuses on the Khedive Ismail’s dream of modernizing Cairo and the urban plans he followed to carry out his goal through renovating old constructions and building new ones.
Chapter II: entitled as: “The construction of Gezireh Palace” and it traces the renovations of Gezireh Palace including a detailed description of its facades, interior salons, furniture, gardens and its menagerie.
Chapter III: entitled as “The Domestic Life inside Gezireh Palace” and it tracks the private family life of the Khedive including the harem life, domestic slaves, eunuchs. It also traces the family celebrations held inside the Gezireh palace including family weddings, religious feasts, circumicition...etc. This chapter also traces a new innovation of the balls which introduced by the Khedive into his court palace and given to distinguished diplomats and elites.
Chapter IV: entitled as “Gezireh Palace over Years” It shows the historical value of Gezireh Palace through tracking its years of glory and its years of decay as well as the major incidents and big receptions held inside it. Then it discusses the conversion of the Palace into a luxurious hotel after its sale in the wake of the financial crisis and its current status.
An Illustarted Catalogue and it shows photos of Gezireh Palace over years together with brief description.
Conclusion: where the major findings are revealed.
