Abstract The research aim to improve the mechanical properties of high manganese steel by using heat treatment to reach optimum heat treatment to obtain good mechanical properties by deposition of Cr7C3 chromium carbide to improve wear resistance and increase the life time of high manganese steel. Two methods of precipitation hardening have been proposed to achieve strengthening of the mechanical and technical properties of this steels. Various chromium carbide deposits were catalyzed with pre-solution heat treatment 1100 oC or post-solution heat treatment 1100 oC . Thus, the results of the two mechanisms were compared in terms of shape, composition and mechanical properties. It was found that the toughness deterioration was significantly observed in the post solution treatment due to the presence of cementite . Cr7C3 fine chromium carbide was observed in the austenite matrix at 700 oC at pre-solution heat treatment 1100 oC, which significantly increased wear resistance and toughness and this improvement increased the life time. |
