Abstract The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) and coral to induce new bone formation and accelerate bone regeneration when be used to fill an experimentally critical hole defect in tibial bone of dogs. Twenty four adult mongrel dogs of both sexes was used and was divided to two groups, first group: A-PRF was used alone to fill one of two critical hole defect and the other was left empty as control. Second group: A-PRF + coral powder mixture to fill one of two critical hole defect and the other was left empty as control. During observation period dogs was observed clinically and radiographically, animals was euthanized at 2,4,8,12 weeks. A morphohistological study was made tibia bone specimens after euthanasia. Results of clinical, radiographical and morphohistological studies revealed the efficacy of coral and A-PRF to induce new bone formation and A-PRF + coral powder mixture has a superior effect on bone regeneration than A-PRF alone. Conclusion: A-PRF has a limited bone regeneration potential when used alone and it should be used with other bone graft substitutes. |
