Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be defined as an alterations in kidney structure, function or both with implications for the health of the individual. Then, discribing some examples of structural abnormalities include tumours, malformations and atrophy. By contrast, kidney dysfunction can manifest as growth delay in children, hypertension, and changes in output of urine; these changes are most often recognized by increased serum levels of creatinine, or blood urea nitrogen. Furthermore, the protocol used for the investigation of some biochemical parameters to explain the mechanism by which the plant extract induced its ameliorative action. After treatment for four weeks, rats were anesthetized after fasting 24 hours to obtain blood, and kidneys for estimation some parameters and compare their levels. Level of serum creatinine, urea and phosphorus. Renalsuperoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities and expression of different genes and histological changes. Then the obtained results were that, there was an apparent decrease in the gene expression of mRNA of Wnt7a, β-catenin and collagen IV in cells of kidney of rats with CKD treated with Clove extract. There was an apparent depression in the Ki-67 expression in glomeruli and tubular cells in the cortex zone of kidney of rats with CKD treated with Clove extract. The above changes due to induction of CKD in rats by adenine were associated with many cytological abnormalities in kidney. These changes were ameliorated by treatment of CKD rats with Clove extract (300 mg / kg body weight) Moreover, its effect to abate the histological effects induced by the adenine. These findings identify clove extract as a promising natural extract to avoid the progression chronic renal disease.
