Abstract

On comparing autoantibody levels between the follow up samples, both anti-Dsg ELISA values and IIF titres showed highly significant decrease with consequetive samples in response to immunosupressives and corresponding to patient’s clinical improvement. When comparing IIF results and antiDsg ELISA results obtained from our patients in relation to clinical disease activity, we found that IIF titres had the strongest correlation with total disease activity followed by antiDsg3 antibody levels, while antiDsg1 levels had poor correlation. As regards mucosal activity, IIF titres were closely correlated more than antiAnti-dsg3 levels. Anti-Dsg1 levels had no significant correlation with mucosal activity. Regarding skin activity IIF titres also had the strongest correlation followed by anti-Dsg3 antibody levels. Anti-Dsg1 showed significant correlation with skin activity at M0 and M3 while at M6 the correlation was positive but not significant. On comparing anti-Dsg levels between disease phenotypes, the levels of anti-Dsg3 ElISA showed no statistically significant difference between mucosal disease and mucocutaneous disease, while the levels of anti-Dsg1 were significantly lower in mucosal disease than mucocutaneous disease.
