Abstract

Acute pancreatitis was the third most common gastrointestinal disorder in the United States of merica and it‘s the most common pancreatic disease worldwide Early identification of patients at increased risk of severe and fatal acute pancreatitis is crucial to improve prognosis, Therefore several scoring systems to assess the severity of AP and prognosis of patients (eg, Ranson‘s criteria and cute Physiology and chronic Health Evaluation II [APACHE-II]) are excellent predictors of the severity of acute pancreatitis. Our work was carried out to evaluate the role of red cell distribution width (RDW) as a simple and routinely ordered laboratory investigation to predict the severity and mortality of AP.
