Abstract Supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children continue to possess treatment challenges for the surgeon, CRIF through lateral entery vs cross fixation seems to be the hot topic of debate. In this study 20 child suffered from supracondylar fracture of the humerus presented to Benha University Hospital , kafr El Sheikh general hospital and El Mehalla general hospital from September 2018 to October 2019. All patients were treated by closed reduction and internal fixation with 3 Kirschner wires from lateral side. The mean age was 7 ranged from (3-11) years, 13 patients were females (65%) and 7 patients were males (35%),18 patients had their fracture as a result of falling on outstretched hand (90%) and 2 patients had their fractures as a result of falling from height (10%), the time from injury to surgery range between (6-24) hours, According to Gartland classification 18 cases were type 3 (90%), 2 cases were type 4 (10%), operative time range was (35-60) minutes. According to Flynn’s criteria , 15 patients had excellent results and 5 patients had good results. Patients were rapidly mobilized after pins removal(3 to 4wks) , the follow up period was 2months average. In this small study we concluded that treatment of the supracondylar humeral fractures in children by closed reduction and internal fixation with 3 lateral k wires if placed with propped technique is stable and effective method of fixation with completley ulnar nerve protection so it provides excellent functional and cosmotic outcome. |
