Abstract This study aimed to examine the direct correlation between both managers formal (Legitimate, Reward, and Coercive), informal (Expert and Referent) sources of power and open-book management (OBM) practices (Sharing information, training, empowering, and rewarding) in special centers and units at Mansoura University, and test the direct impact for managers sources of power on OBM practices. A field study was conducted including all employees working in these centers and units. The number of respondents were 794 from 901 participants. (88.12% response rate). Results revealed that there was a significant positive direct correlation between both managers formal, informal sources of power and OBM practices and also revealed a significant positive direct impact for both legitimate and reward power on OBM practices. But a significant negative direct impact for coercive power on OBM practices. And it was also found that informal sources of power have a positive direct impact on OBM practices. The results showed that all study hypotheses were supported. Finally, theoretical and practical implications were presented in addition to future research suggestions. |
