Abstract

Nurses employed in the healthcare system have to deal with a wide range of activities and environment that pose a threat and risk to their health and put them at risk for work related hazards. The aim of the present study was to assess hazards facing nursing personnel in dialysis units at Benha University and Teaching Hospitals. Subject and methods: Descriptive research design was utilized to conduct this study. The present subject was conducted in dialysis units at Benha University and Teaching Hospitals. A convenience sample of 75 nurses was taken from the above mentioned settings. Two tools; were used in this study, namely: questionnaire sheet and structured questionnaire to assess availability of facilities at the working environment from the nurses ’ point of view. Results; The highest percentage nurses working at Benha University Hospital and Teaching Hospital had an adequate level of knowledge (85% & 80%, respectively). The highest percentage of nurses working at Benha University Hospital and Teaching Hospital reported that the safety measures are sufficient in the dialysis unit (90 & 82.9% respectively). Conclusion: The highest percent of nurses working at Benha University and Teaching Hospitals exposed to biological hazards. Recommendations; the hospital should develop clear plans and policies for proper prevention of occupational health hazard and guidelines should activate and available in all hospital departments
