Abstract

study the effect of locator versus stern snap angled attachment used to retain labially inclined implants for mandibular overdenture on implant marginal bone height , soft tissue health changes; and patient’s satisfaction Materials and Methods : Six healthy completely edentulous patients with labially inclined anterior mandibular ridges were selected for this study. patients were classified into two equal groups as follows: group (I): where each patient received mandibular overdenture retained by locator attachment; and group (II): where each patient received mandibular overdenture retained by angled stern snap attachment. The implant marginal bone height and soft tissue health changes including; modified gingival index, modified plaque index, modified bleeding index, probing depth were measured .Also, patient’s satisfaction with their prosthesis was evaluated using a visual analogue scale. Results: 1- A statistically significant mean implant marginal bone loss was observed in both groups after all periods of study. There was statistically insignificant implant marginal bone loss between both groups after all periods of study.2-There was a statistically insignificant difference in the peri-implant soft tissue health between both groups. 3- stern snap attachment group showed higher statistically significant patient satisfaction compared with the locator attachment group. Conclusion : The angled stern snap attachments used to retain mandibular overdentures compared with locator attachment which need frequent replacement of the retention rings. Based on patient satisfaction, stern snap angled attachment is preferred for labially inclined implant.
