Abstract

Attaining temperatures at the level of hundreds Celsius from solar energy is a challenge as it necessitates the use of a solar concentrator with high concentration ratios and continuous sun rays tracking. Moreover, the heat losses at high temperatures are expected to be high. The present work seeks the design of a solar receiver to minimize heat losses in pursuit of gaining the maximum possible outlet temperature of the working fluid to be used in heating applications. The study investigates parametrically a solar dish receiver design using spiralcoil absorber cylindrical cavity. A Mathematical model formulated on Engineering equation solver (EES) is implemented taking into consideration various parameters such as the receiver dimensions, the materials the inlet water temperature and solar irradiance. These parameters are investigated parametrically to get the cylindrical receiver design. This Mathematical model is validated by a previously published experimental data to assure the reliability of the results which showed a maximum deviation of 0.24℃ in the temperature rise.
