Abstract

Many patients with liver cirrhosis perceived lower physical functioning and more fatigue than non-cirrhotic individuals. Fatigue is one of the most common and prominent symptoms of patients with liver cirrhosis and can result in reduced physical activity, constraints on daily life and even a decrease in working hours and social activities. In early reports on the clinical profile of cirrhosis, fatigue is the important symptoms of the disease (Brower and Steven, 2012).
Aim of the study:
The present study was conducted to fulfill the following aim: Assess the effect of fatigue on physical activity among patients with liver cirrhosis and explore the relation between fatigue and demographic characteristics of the patients.
Research questions:
The following questions was formulated to achieve the aim of the current study:
1. What are effects of fatigue on physical activity among patient with liver cirrhosis?
Summary

2. What is the correlation between fatigue and demographic characteristics among patients with liver cirrhosis?
Research designs:
A descriptive explorative study was utilized to meet the aim of this study.
Setting:
The present study was conducted in Medical intermediate ICU at Arab Contractors Medical Center.
Subjects:
A purposive sample included (40) patients with liver cirrhosis were recruited in this study.
The subjects recruited according to the inclusion criteria as the following:
1- Patients of both genders.
2-Patients who were confirmed diagnosis with liver cirrhosis by ultrasonography and agree to participate in the study.
3-Age between 18–80 years.
4-Clear mental status with the ability to communicate in writing or orally.
Summary

5-Absence of chronic diseases, such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, thyroid dysfunction and osteoarthritis.
6- Absence of other acute conditions, such as, sepsis and gastrointestinal bleeding.
Tools of the study:
Three tools were used to collect necessary data to fulfill the study aim:
Tool (1) Patients interview questionnaire (Appendix I):
It was adopted from European Association Study of Liver (EASL, 2017). It used to assess patients’ knowledge and clinical data among patients with liver cirrhosis. It consists of three main parts:
Part (I): Patients’ demographic data:
This part used to assess patients’ demographic data which includes the following items: (gender, age, occupation, educational level, marital status…etc.).
Part (II): Patients’ Clinical Data:
It was used to collect clinical data from patient with liver cirrhosis, it included the following three sections:
Summary

Section (1): patient medical history:
It composed of present, past history and family history of patient with liver cirrhosis including closed ended question as regard to causes of the disease, medications, weight changes, history of chronic and surgical procedure and Symptoms that patient suffered from e.g. (fatigue, anorexia, vomiting, jaundice, edema …etc.).
Section (2): Laboratory investigations:
This section includes the most common laboratory investigations e.g. (complete blood count (CBC), serum creatinine (Cr), international normalizing ratio (INR), serum albumin …etc.).
Section (3): Child- Pugh score:
This score was adopted from American Association Study of liver Diseases (AASLD, 2012) and used to assess severity of liver cirrhosis among the patients by calculating scores of the following items (Albumin, S. Bilirubin, International Normalization Ratio (INR), Ascites and Hepatic Encephalopathy).
