Abstract

Background: The omega3 fatty acids (ω-3 FAs) found in seafood, especially fatty fish, and in supplements. They exert a range of health benefits because of their multi-functions. Therefore, all sectors of the population need to ensure sufficient intake of these important nutrients. Aim: It is hypothesized that using ω-3 FAs, as a supplement may enhance the immune response and improve the physiology. Results: ω-3 FAs of marine origin limit diet-induced obesity in mice by decreasing not only the body weight but also the relative weights of the internal organs through reducing weights. The administration of ω-3 FAs for both short- and long-terms can increase RBCs count, hemoglobin content and platelets. The liver enzymes were reduced after administration of different doses of ω-3 FAs for short and long times. ω-3 FAs decreased the serum activity of ALT, AST and ALP after both periods. ω-3 FAs preserve kidney without damage and consequently, there is a plenty outflow of creatinine and urea and other metabolites from the blood through the active kidney. ω-3 FAs treatments for short- and long- terms reduced serum cholesterol, triglycerides and GSH levels in mice blood. The ω-3 FAs administration either for short- or long-term increased the serum levels of anti-oxidants such as, GPx, SOD and MDA. The obtained results supposed that ω-3 FAs administration to mice can enhance and regulate the thyroid function. Present results indicated that CD4+, CD4+ T lymphocyte subsets and Cd11b+ macrophage subset increased significantly in most of mice groups treated with ω-3 FAs comparing to control mice in both short- and long-term treatment protocols. In addition, the data revealed that IgG increased significantly in most of mice groups treated with ω-3 FAs comparing to control mice in both short- and long-term treatment protocols. Conclusion: obtained results suppose that supplementation of ω-3 FAs in high doses for a longer time can reduce body weights, serum lipids, oxidative stress, and improve CBC as well as opens a new research to target B cells in vivo and improve murine antibody production of IgG.
