Abstract

This work enhances the performance of three-phase grid connected PV systems using intelligent controller. The fuzzy based maximum power point tracker has been applied in order to improve the tracking characteristics of the PV system. Moreover, the fuzzy based controller has been designed and evaluated for extracting ‎the maximum obtainable power from PV plant considering numerous ‎operational conditions.‎
As the performance of grid connected PV systems should meet the Egyptian codes, an assessment of the Egyptian codes for grid connected photovoltaic (PV) has been analyzed and compared with the IEC & IEEE standards. The thesis also analyzes the performance of small-scale grid connected photovoltaic systems (SSPV).
In order to validate the presented PV system, a case study of a 39.78 kW grid connected PV system at Holy Family School in Helwan, Egypt has been considered. The grid-connected PV system has been modeled and implemented in Matlab/ Simulink. To build the model, a cost analysis is applied to present the cost efficiency of the considered system. Also, the power quality parameters are measured for the PV system of the case study. The record measurements on the point of common coupling (PCC) are evaluated along with photovoltaic low voltage (PV-LV) codes.
