Abstract

Abstract: Effect of Different Nourishments on Cydnoseius negevi Development. The shortest incubation period was noted when C. negevi was fed on T. urticae eggs (1.5 days), while the longest one was recorded with A. kuehniella eggs (2.7days). Effect of prey types on longevity of Cydnoseius negevi Male longevity was longer when C. negevi fed on T. urtica eggs (22.4 days). The shortest male longevity was noticed when C. negevi was offered eggs of cotton leaf worm (15.8 days). Females lived also for a shorter time (20.2 days) when they were provided with S. littoralis eggs, but they lived for a longer time (24 days) when they subjected to date palm pollen or T. ricini eggs. Impact of different food sources on life tables of Cydnoseius negevi. Survival percentages of C. negevi was at its highest level when the predatory fed on date palm pollen and S. littoralis eggs (96%). Feeding on eggs of A. kuehniella gave 95%, while it was 94% when C. negevi females provided with eggs of spider mite T. urticae and 91% with T. ricini eggs. Effect of crowding of Cydnoseius negevi on its feeding capacity and fecundity. Predatory mite females were confined as 1, 2, 4 and 6 females per arena and each was supplied with a surplus amount of prey and tested for 10 successive days. Feeding capacity of C. negevi, which was represented by number of consumed preys increased linearly by increasing their density, where the highest rate of prey consumption was achieved when two predators were kept together in each arena. More than four predatory mites/arena directly decreased feeding capacity. Female fecundity generally decreased by increasing predator density/arena. In conclusion, the results showed that the phytoseiid mites, C. negevi, which considered promising biological control agent of some mites and insect pests, could be reared successfully under laboratory conditions by feeding them on different insect eggs as an alternative food source, especially when their natural preys are scarce.
