Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC), considered the third in the cancer morbidity and the second in the cancer mortality, is the most prevalent malignant cancer in the world with annual new cases exceeding 1,000,000. Despite great progresses have been made in therapy of CRC, 30–40 %patients still died of relapse and metastasis, among which liver metastasis is the leading cause of death. Therefore, it is important to accurately diagnose liver metastasis in early stage and then following a preventive treatment.
Adenomatous polyps are the most common neoplastic findings discovered in people who undergo colorectal screening or who have a diagnostic work-up for symptoms.
It has been shown that the first screening colonoscopy and polypectomy produces the greatest effects on reducing the incidence of colorectal cancer in patients with adenomatous polyps.
Long non coding RNAs (LncRNAs),known as non coding transcripts 200 nucleotides longer in length, have been involved in the development of various human diseases, especially in cancers. LncRNAs also play crucial regulatory roles in different cellular processes, such as gene regulation, post translational processing, and tumor agenesis. Meanwhile, it has been found that many lncRNAs can function as oncogenes or tumor suppressors. Therefore, the lncRNA-TUG1, SPRY4-IT1, and HULC may function as potential markers for predicting the prognosis of patients with different kinds of cancer.
So the aim of the present study was to evaluate of LncRNA HULC and ZEB1 as a tumor biomarker in the serum of the patient with colorectal adenomatous polyps and adenocarcinoma, was to evaluate the correlation between the level of lncRNA HULC to other conventional serum CRC biomarkers (CEA and CA19.9) and histopathological type of tumour and adenomatous polyps and its level with staging of malignancy.
The present study included 100 patients more than 18 years old and of both sex divided into three groups, group I included 40 patients with colorectal cancers in different stages and location of malignancy, group II included 40 patients with adenomatous polyp detected by colonscopy (site, size, types by naked eye , pathological feature) , group III included 20 healthy control of matched age and sex.
