Abstract In this study, waste tire rubber particles are added to fiberglass / unsaturated polyester resin composite. This composite’s tensile and impact strength are compared to fiberglass / unsaturated polyester resin composite of the same volume fraction of Calcium carbonate. The novel composite, of rubber particles, is developed and compared to conventionally used polyester fiberglass composite, which contains calcium carbonate powder as a filler. This composite is usually used in car and ship bodies. The use of recycled rubber particles as a filler has the advantage of enhancing the impact properties of the composite in addition to the low density of composite, which is a gain for the specified applications. The effect of drilling cutting speed on the novel prepared rubber polyester composite is studied and the optimum results are analyzed and examined by a digital microscope. Joining composite plates is a critical issue to be studied. One of the main steps of joining the plates by pins or bolts is drilling such plates. The drilling of the novel composite is examined, and the optimum cutting speed is selected to get the least damage and delamination in the composite. This study aims to study the design and geometry factors affecting the novel composite joint’s failure load. This work is a collective study of some factors that affect the joint. The optimum factor is obtained in one test and set as a constant for other tests to get a final joint of the composite of optimum edge to diameter |
