Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop the essential and required managerial competencies for students of tourism and hospitality faculties in Egypt by a training program was designed using the ADDIE model.
Therefore, a Delphi technique was used to identify the training needs of the essential managerial competencies required by the industry from the graduates. Sixty (60) experts were selected from different sectors in the tourism and hospitality industry in Egypt and divided into two different panels to participate in a three-round Delphi study. The three rounds included three different series questionnaires were designed using google forms for collecting the study data. Fifty-three experts successfully completed the all three rounds with a response rate 83.3%. The descriptive statistics were utilized to analyze all quantitative data.
The study findings revealed twenty-two managerial competencies required for effective managerial performance in the different tourism and hospitality organizations in Egypt, thirteen managerial competencies were rated as the most important competencies needed from tourism and hospitality graduates to enter the labor market, and four competencies essential needed to possess by graduates before graduation. The experts consensus on all the identified competencies reached above 80%. The identified list of competencies was used to design the training program (Problem- solving, Decision making, Client focus, and Teamworking).
The study recommendations included incorporate the identified competencies in the educational process using different practical methods.
The researcher suggested further researches to identify required managerial competencies from graduates by the industry leaders for each sector Separately.
