Abstract Liver is among the most complex and important organs in the human body. Its primary function is to control the flow and safety of substances absorbed from the digestive system before distribution of these substances to the systemic circulatory system, it is the master organ for creating optimal nutrition for all the 50 trillion cells in our bodies (Blouin et al., 1977). A total loss of liver function leads to death within minutes. Liver is the largest gland in the human body, weighing approximately 3 pounds accounts for approximately 2.5 percent of total body weight and occupying a large region mostly on the right side of the body (Fig. 1.1), below the diaphragm and behind ribs (Bacon et al., 2000). |
