Abstract
Summary and ConclusionSummary: Six healthy completely edentulous male patients their age ranged from 50 – 65 years, were selected from the outpatient clinic of Removable Prosthodontics Department,
Faculty of Dentistry, Suez Canal University. Each patient
received two stages root form titanium implant in the canine
area of the mandible.
Patients received complete maxillary denture and implant
retained mandibular overdenture with locator attachment.
Patients’ grouping:
All Patients contributed in this study used two different
nylon inserts. According to the used nylon insert, grouping was:
Group1: All the six patients in this study used blue (extra
light retention, 1.2 pounds) nylon inserts for one and two
months respectively.
Group2: All the six patients in this study used pink (light
retention, 2.4 pounds) nylon inserts for one and two months
respectively.
Between using the blue and pink nylon insert all patients
were allowed for two months rest period, where the black
processing caps were placed in the metal housing instead of the
retentive inserts during the rest period.

Surface electromyography (SEMG) was done to evaluate
muscle activity of the tested muscles (masseter and temporalis)
recordings were performed five times as following:
- Baseline record, after complete absence of any discomfort,
and patients were presumed to be adapted to their dentures.
- Patients were allowed for two months adaptation period after
the pickup procedure.
- Second and third records respectively, after one and two
months of using blue inserts.
- Patients were allowed for two months rest period where the
black processing caps were placed in the metal housing instead
of the retentive inserts.
- Fourth and fifth records respectively, after one and two
months of using pink inserts.
The means of changes were collected, tabulated and
statistically analyzed and the following conclusions were
obtained:
Conclusion:
1- Pink locator nylon inserts showed significantly higher
masticatory muscle activity than blue inserts.
2- Using pink locator nylon inserts with only two implants
showed economical advantage for elderly people who
require less invasive solutions
