Abstract

was diagnosed according to the International Diabetes Federation; 50% (29) were males and 50% (29) were females, their age ranged between 40-70 years with mean ± SD (58.50± 8.58), 22.4% (13) were smokers, 77.6% (45) were diabetic and 12% (48) were hypertensive, Waist circumference ranged between 95-155 cm group B: includes 58 osteoarthritic patients without metabolic syndrome, 41.4% (24) were males and 58.6 (34) were females, their age ranged between 34-70 years with Mean ± SD (55.78± 12.28), 39.7% (23) were smokers, 6.9% (4) were diabetic and 17.2% (10) were hypertensive, Waist circumference ranged between 78-150 cm..
Conclusion: Insulin resistance calculated using HOMA IR is significantly higher in OA patients with metabolic syndrome than OA patients without metabolic syndrome. We concluded that patients with knee OA and metabolic syndrome has more radiological damage and severe grades of functional disability in comparative to patients with OA without MS.
