Abstract

The study aimed to assess the relationship between adolescent’s life satisfaction and academic achievement in pediatric nursing course. Research Design: A descriptive design was utilized. Setting: The study conducted at Benha Technical Health Institute. Sample: convenience sample included (300) 2nd year adolescent students who are studying in the previously mentioned setting. Tools: (1) A structured interview questionnaire to assess characteristics of pediatric nursing adolescent students and factors that affect their academic achievement, (2) Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale to measure pediatric nursing adolescent students’ life satisfaction and (3) Score of the studied students in pediatric nursing course to measure their academic achievement. Results: It was found that, more than three quarters of the studied students their age was less than 20 years old with mean scores (19.4±0.6) and three-quarters of the studied students have unsatisfactory knowledge regarding factors that affect academic achievement and more than half of them mentioned that institute factors affect negatively on their academic achievement in pediatric nursing course. In addition, less than half of the studied students had average life satisfaction, and fifty of them had very good scores regarding pediatric nursing course. Conclusion: there was a statistical significant relationship between adolescent’s life satisfaction and their academic achievement in pediatric nursing course. Recommendation: The study recommended to encourage the theoretical and practical utility of an assets approach for understanding life satisfaction in early adolescence, clinical instructors must act as positive role models in academia and clinical practice and encourage adolescents’ ability to express their feelings help them develop friendships that provide validation, support, intimacy, and companionship.
