Abstract

The current thesis consists of four parts. The first part is an introduction of mass spectrometry along with types if ion sources and the coupled techniques to MS. The second Part presents an introduction and literature review of Ciprofloxacin. The third part describes a direct Nano-electrospray ionization multi stage mass spectrometry for detection and quantitation of Ciprofloxacin and structural elucidation of its fragments in pharmaceutical dosage form as well as targeted detection and confirmation of the drug in question in human urine samples. The fourth part introduces an application of the Direct infusion Nano electrospray ionization Mass spectrometry method for the determination of Ciprofloxacin and detection of two of its metabolites in human saliva samples post 500 mg tablet administration.
