Abstract

The lithostratigraphy, microfacies, diagenetic history, lithofaceis association and depositional environment and petrophysical characterization of the Late Oligocene-Early Miocene sediments at Wadi Tayiba and Gebel Nukhul sections, Hammam Faraun Fault Block, Gulf of Suez, Egypt have been investigated in details. Lithostratigraphically, the studied succession includes the Late Oligocene Abu Zenima Formation and the Late Oligocene-Early Miocene Nukhul Formation. The Abu Zenima Formation is mainly composed of a succession of red and white sandstones and siltstones with a basal conglomerate bearing basalt pebbles while the Nukhul Formation is a succession of mainly shallow marine deposits that include alternating calcareous sandstones, conglomerates and marls. A lithostratigraphic correlation between Abu Zenima and Nukhul formations in the both Wadi Tayiba and Gebel Nukhul sections has been carried out.
