Abstract

Breastfeeding is considered the ideal strategy for infant feeding, particularly in the first six months of life owing to its Major impact on both the infant and his mother as well. Some of the benefits of breast milk provision for infants include decreased risk of otitis media, sudden infant death syndrome and improved neurodevelopmental outcomes at early school age. The Aim of this study: To determine the extent of bottle use in infant feeding and the factors associated with its use in rural communities. Materials and methods: This was a community based cross-sectional study conducted on a total of two thousand children aged 0-12months and their mothers at Samanoud primary care unit during the period from July 2019 to July 2020. Results : The current study demonstrated that bottle feeding is seems to be the main method of feeding among 0-12 months old infants in Samanoud town, Egypt, the current study was applied on 2000 mothers and the majority of mothers were full bottle feeding followed by mixed bottle & breast feeding and full breast feeding respectively. The mothers used bottle feeding for specific reasons especially low amount of milk followed by twins, neonatal problems, maternal work and finally maternal diseases. Doctors play a main role for encouragement mothers with special conditions for bottle feeding. Entire mothers were alert about the advantages of breast feeding and the majority of which had high level of satisfaction in terms of maternal center role. Coclusions : Several factors are associated with poor adherence to breastfeeding, including : family characteristics, factors related to prenatal and postnatal care, offer of alternative artificial formulas, return to work/studies, and lack of legal protection for breastfeeding. The biological plausibility of this association is based on the dysfunction of muscle dynamics caused by the use of these devices, leading the baby to inadequate sucking behaviors.
