Abstract
Underwater image processing is essential topic of image processing field according to the wide and important usage of it in many applications such as maintenance, repair of undersea structure, marine sciences, homeland security, prospecting and exploration of oil and gas resources in the seas and oceans, hydrographic survey for the purpose of securing and anchorage area, planning underwater communication cables, pipelines and mine detection.Underwater images suffer from non-uniform lighting, low contrast, blur and diminished color and these makes the enhancement step is important and critical step for any underwater system. These characterization are caused by the light propagation conditions in water medium, Light in water suffers from two phenomena : absorption and scattering.
