Abstract

Cancer is a life-threatening disease, the World Health Organization
(WHO) reported that 9.6 million people died from cancer in 2018. Breast
cancer represents one third of cancer cases threatening the female
population relative to males due to mammary lactate glands and their
proliferation ability. Estrogen is the female sex hormone responsible for
development and fertility of female organs. Phytoestrogens have a similar
action to estrogens that can bind to estrogen receptors (ER) and activate
them. Phytoestrogens include flavones, lignans, coumestans and
triterpenes.
Phytoestrogens have anticarcinogenic potential and they have also
significant estrogenic properties. Inspired by the activity of triterpenes and
polysaccharides isolated from the medicinal mushroom Ganoderma, we
chose this genus for further investigation. The fruiting bodies of
Ganoderma resinaceum were collected from living Ficus tree in Mansoura
IV
University Campus, Egypt and laboratory culturing of its mycelia was
performed.
