Abstract Pregnancy is usually accompanied by many physiological and physical changes that is attributed to the shift in hormonal levels (estrogen and progesterone; mainly) during the reproductive phases of the first, second and third trimesters. These changes include gastrointestinal problems, breast tenderness, fatigue, increased weight, polyuria and pregnancy melasma. Pregnancy has an effect on every organ of the body; even the eye. Ocular effects may be physiological as chloasma, melanogenesis, melanocytosis, decreased corneal sensation, corneal oedema, refractive changes due to transient loss of accommodation and decreased IOP. |
