Abstract Vanadium is a relatively abundant element with avery wide distribution; however, workable deposits are very rare. Vanadium occurs in the minerals vanadinite, chileite, patronite, and carnotite. It constitutes about 0.01% of the crust of the Earth. Vanadium pentoxide is used as a catalyst for producing sulfuric acid, phthalic acid, and maleic acid; a battery material; a raw material for phosphors; and other materials. Vanadium causes a variety of toxic effects such as hematological and biochemical changes and abnormalities in development and reproduction, morphological and functional lesions in liver, kidneys, bones, spleen and leukocytes. The goal of the present study was performed to elucidate the vanadium at different doses on some hematological, biochemical parameters and histological changes in male rats. In this study 3 groups (6 animals each) of male rats randomly for 6 weeks assigned and treated as following: group I (control) was orally administered with carboxy methyl cellulose. group II was orally administered with a dose equal O.lmg/kg (1/100 of LD5o) of body weight of vanadium pentoxide. group III was orally administered with a dose equal lmg/kg (1/10 of LD50) of body weight of vanadium pentoxide. |
