Abstract The nurse and their level of experience were highlighted to be an important portion of the health care system which can affect instantly the quality of provided care. Also, the shortage of nursing staff has become an increasingly imperious primacy in the new decades and has imparted a chain of challenges and trends to hospitals all over the world (Combes et al., 2018). The high rate of nurses’ career change has a major effect on the quality of patient care, and it also imparted severe economic have to these organizations and countries. The total cost for nursing staff low level of retention, including low productivity and high costs for hiring and training new staff, which could be extended to be more than 5% of the annual operating budget in a major medical center (Bong, 2019).treatment and follow-up appointments, resulting in improved health outcomes and referrals to others (Batbaatar et al., 2017). Aim of the study The current study aims investigate factors contributing career change among nurses working at selected Hospitals. Setting The study was conducted at Fever Hospital and Minia University Hospital in Minia city, Egypt. Subjects The study sample subjects total number was 128 nurses. Data Collection Tool This tool developed by the researcher to assess factors contributing career change among nurses. The tool consists of three parts as follows: Part I: Personal data It was used to collect data about nurses and encompass items such as age, gender, marital status, educational qualification, salary, years of experience, department, and residence. Part II: Anticipated career change factors Consists of four factors autonomy, job satisfaction, burn out and workload. Autonomy was consisted of (12) items. Job satisfaction was consisted of (25) items. Burnout was consisted of (10) items. Workload was consisted of (9) items Part III: Social factors This part was determine social factors included the society in Upper Egypt. This part was consisted of 10 items The main results of the study were: • Illustrated that (64.1%) of the studied nurses had high level of workload, follow by (41.4% ) of them had high level of autonomy, then (21.1%) of them had high level of burnout, and finally (14.8%) of them had a high level of job satisfaction. Moreover this figure illustrates that (80.5%) of the studied nurses had moderate level of job satisfaction, follow by (77.3% ) moderate of them had moderate level of burnout, then (52.3%) of them had high level of autonomy, and finally (35.9%) of them had a moderate level of workload. • Revealed that (82%) of the studied nurses had moderate level of anticipated career change factors Recommendations • Improving society’s view of nursing work through television programs and interviews, films and series, seminars, and honorable nursing models in Egyptian society. • Reducing nurses’ workload by determining their practical responsibilities while assigning administrators to specific staff besides hiring nursing assistants to provide indirect care to patients. |
