Abstract Acceleration of OTM become a great demand in the field of orthodontics. Prolonged treatment time increase the risk for development of white spot lesions, gingival hyperplasia, and root resorption. Also, prolongation of the treatment time may lead to incompliance especially among adult patients, making it more difficult to finish cases. The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of PRP injection alone or preceded by decortication on the rate of OTM. This study was carried out on 21 out of totally recruited 24 patients. These patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups. The study design was split mouth design. In group I, 11 patients received PRP injection (70 unit), and in group II, 10 patients received PRP injection preceded by decortication in their experimental sides. Control sides in both groups received no injection. Canine retraction was initiated immediately after the intervention using NiTi coil spring delivering a force of (150 g=1.5 N) extending from canine bracket to hook on the first molar band. Indirect anchorage was done by inserting L-shaped 0.019 x 0.025-inch stainless steel wire in the auxiliary tube of the upper first molar band, cinched back, and connected to the miniscrew (8 x 1.6 mm) with a composite ball. Impressions and dental models were done monthly during retraction. The model scanned with 1:1 proportion in order to measure the rate of canine retraction. CBCT image was taken for the maxillary arch after leveling and alignment before canine retraction (T1), and after completion of canine retraction (T2) to assess tipping, rotation, and root resorption of the maxillary 5 canines during the retraction procedure. Pain level and patient acceptance were also evaluated. |
