Summary
Proliferative skin diseases include all skin conditions that characterized by abnormal proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes, Such as psoriasis, lichen planus, etc. which affect large percentage of population and also affect quality of their life.
The mean platelet volume (MPV) is a measure of platelet size generated by full blood count analyzers as a part of routine complete blood count (CBC), which is commonly overlooked by clinicians. It is an important marker that shows the activation and function of the platelets, which is effective in the inflammatory diseases.
Neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), is a potential marker to determine the degree of inflammation in various diseases because it has a superior predictive, diagnostic and discriminative ability than total WBC count. It has various advantages over other inflammatory markers because of its wide availability, low cost, reliability and easy lab detection.
The aim of this study was to estimate the level of the mean platelet volume (MPV) and Neutrophil-Lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in different proliferative skin diseases and to shed some light on the relationship between these markers and disease activity.
This prospective case control study was conducted on 105 subjects, collected from outpatient clinic of dermatology department at Menoufia University Hospital. Thirty five patients with psoriasis represented group (I), 35 patients with lichen planus represented group (II), 35 controls healthy subjects of number age and sex matched to patients groups represented group (III).

All patients and controls were subjected to: history, complete general examination, dermatological examinations include: psoriasis (PASI score) and assess lichen planus clinically and routine lab (CBC, ALT, AST, creatinine, and calculated NLR (.
The results of the current study showed:
1- Mean platelet volume (MPV) levels were significantly higher in psoriatic patients than normal controls.
2- Mean platelet volume (MPV) levels were significantly higher in lichen planus patients than normal controls.
3- Neutrophile to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were significantly higher in lichen planus patients than normal controls.
4- Hemoglobin levels were significantly lower in patient groups than control group.
5- Platelet indices (PCT, PDW) levels were significantly higher in patient groups than control group.
