Abstract

Liver cirrhosis has emerged as a major cause of global health burden. According to the Global Burden of Disease 2010 study, liver cirrhosis caused 31 million Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), or 1.2% of global DALYs, in 2010, and one million deaths, or 2% of all deaths worldwide in that year (Lozano et al., 2012) According to our study which included100 patients were diagnosed to have liver cirrhosis based on combination of clinical features, laboratory profile and radiological imaging. Man age of studied patients was 58.09 ± 17.89 years with range between 30 and 65 years. Majority (63%) of studied patients was males and 37 (37%) patients were females. Out of the studied patients, 35 (35%) patients were smokers As regarding the occupation of studied patients, 53 (53%), 17 (17%), and 30 (30%) patients were farmers, employees and not working, respectively. 65 (65%) patients came from rural areas and 35 (35%) patients came from urban areas The most frequent aetiology of liver disease was hepatitis C infection (70%) followed by hepatitis B infection (19%). Both HBV and HCV infection presented in 7 (7%) patients. Two patients had alcoholic hepatitis and also, two patients had cryptogenic cirrhosis Causes of admission in studied patients. It was noticed that 20 (20%) patients came for follow up in Outpatients Clinic. Hematemesis, melena, and hepatic encephalopathy presented in 31 (31%), 15 (15%) and 15 (15%) patients respectively. eleven patients (11%) were admitted secondary to suspicious of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis while 8 (8%) patients were admitted secondary to anaemic manifestations. When we Assess severity of disease in Cirrhotic subjects according to Child Pugh Classification. It was noticed that 20 (20%), 41 (41%) and 39 (39%) patients were Child A, B, and C, respectively. According to our study, we found that the most frequent presentation was follow up in 12 (60%) patients with Child A, hematemesis in 16 (39%) patients with Child B and hepatic encephalopathy in 15 (38.5%) patients with Child C We found that Majority of patients with Child B and Child C had moderate and marked ascites while 50% of those with Child A had no ascites and 50% had mild ascites According to our study that which included 100 patients with liver cirrhosis based on combination of clinical features, laboratory profile and radiological imaging. And enrolled patients suggested to be divided according to Child Pugh Classification into; Child A 20 patients, Child B 41 patients, Child C 39 patients. We It was noticed that triglyceride, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein were significantly decreasing in those with Child C and Child B in comparison to those with Child A. Also, patients with Child C had significantly lower triglyceride, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein in comparison to those with Child B.
