Abstract

This study sheds light upon October-War 1973 as a watershed in the history of Egypt and theMiddle East. No wonder, its impact on the entire region continues to the present. The study also places a focus on its repercussions that contributed to change the life of the Egyptians and re-balance the power in the Middle East region. The study spots light likewise on the long
preparation process for October war whether under Nasser’s reign or Sadat’s reign.
Actually, the preparation for October-War had started in 9th and 10th of June 1967 when the Egyptians came out to the street to announce their refusal of the defeat of June war and their
support to their leader Nasser in order to restore their occupied land together with dignity and pride. At the same time, they were raising an outcry to mend the political life in Egypt and to get over the causes of failure that led to this defeat. After Sadat’s rise to power, the preparations continued till he made his bold decision of war in 1973.
The study aimed to examine the monumental echoes of October war on the local and intemational arenas, reveal some of its untold heroic stands and refute some allegationsthat had
been aroused lately about it.
As a matter of fact, the victory of October-war carried the winds of change to the Egyptian society and to the Middle East region. At home, the fruits of October-war loomed early in 1974
by declaring the paper of October which was much more like an economic charter for years to come. In other words, the Egyptian economy tumed fiom economy of war to economy of development. The open-door policy which Sadat implemented was accompanied with the re- emergence of political parties to maintain liberal democracy. As a result, the Egyptian society underwent many remarkable changes that were thoroughly examined in this study.
On the Intemational level, the Egyptian leadership marched a long course and made big efforts to establish permanent peace in the region and to settle down the Arab-Israeli dispute.
The study followed a historical analytical approach and depended on archival sources at as well
as contemporary ones (official documents whether foreign like that of the US Department of State or Egyptian ones, presidential speeches, govemmental reports, printed press, memories,
eyewitness’ testimonies, literary works, artworks and other).
