Abstract

Coronavirus is a new microorganism that causes respiratory illness in hosts.Several coronaviruses in humans are known to cause infections of respiratory ranging from the common cold to more diseases that are serious such as the Middle East respiratory syndrome, severe acute respiratory syndrome and coronavirus disease 2019(COVID 19) (WHO, 2020a). This is the most serious public health issue currently facing people all over the world (Iboi et al., 2021). The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated the COVID-19 is a pandemic. WHO defines pandemic as “occurring over a wide geographic area and affecting an exceptionally high proportion of the population (WHO,2020a).COVID-19 has no effective treatment; however, early recognition of the disease’s symptoms and timely seeking supportive care and preventive measures, such as wearing face masks indoors and outdoors in crowded areas, covering mouth and nose with elbow or tissue when coughing and sneezing, continuous hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds etc will help to decrease virus spread (WHO & CDC, 2021).The advancement of technology has the potential to alter practice of nursing. It can assist nurses in providing nursing care to patients, their families, and communities. Telenursing can be a viable alternative to the traditional face-to-face approach of providing nursing care. Telenursing is the use of technology to give nursing care and perform practice of nursing. There was also some evidence of telenursing usage in nursing care, and it was reported that it may be employed for counseling, education, monitoring, besides assessment of health-care results (Chaupis, 2017). Community health nurses may be the nameless heroes of the COVID-19 epidemic, working in communities to minimize disease transmission through preventative measures, education, as well as screening. In a pandemic, the role of community nurse is to provide information on COVID-19, and enhance community members’ awareness about preventive measures practice (Kawasaki et al., 2021).Aim of the study: The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of telehealth nursing intervention on protective measures awareness about corona virus among university students. Research hypotheses:Knowledge of university students who will receive telehealth nursing intervention about corona virus infection at post intervention will be improved compared to pre intervention.  Protective measures practice of university students who will receive telehealth nursing intervention about corona virus infection at post intervention will be improved compared to pre intervention.Design A quasi-experimental research design with pre – posttest was used to achieve the aim of the study. Setting This study was conducted at two non-Medical faculties (Faculty of Commerce, and Faculty of Law) in Shebin Elkom City, Menoufia University.Convenience sample was gathered through online Google form, composed of 280 university students of males and females, aged between 18 to 22 years of selected non-medical faculties, agree to participate in the study, haven’t had COVID-19, they have mobile phone and accessible source of internet. Instruments of data collection:The data of the study was collected by using the I. self-administered structured questionnaire developed by the researcher after reviewing the related literature and included the following: a- Personal characteristics: - It included name of student, age, sex, type of faculty, academic year and place of residence. Student’s knowledge about COVID-19: - It was used to examine student’s knowledge about Covid-19 and included forty-four questions. Eight items about nature of Covid-19, six items about mode of transmission, seven items about signs and symptoms, seven items about vulnerable group to infection, four items about complication and twelve items about protective measures of Covid-19.. Student’s practice related protective measures against COVID-19: -It included sixteen items such as washing hands with soap and water, wearing mask in crowded places, avoiding touching eyes, nose, mouth with infected hands, keeping distance not less than one meter between people, etc.The main results of this study showed that:More than one third of the studied university students aged between 18 to 21 years with mean of 20.9 ± 1.7 years. Twenty-eight point six percent of them was in first year, about twenty-two percent were in fourth year, and half of them were females At pre intervention, more than three fourths of university students (82.2%) had poor knowledge about COVID 19, 16.4% had fair knowledge and 1.4% had good knowledge compared to post telehealth nursing intervention, the good knowledge level was highly significantly improved (83.2%) , fair knowledge was 9.3% and
poor knowledge was 7.5%. At pre intervention, about three quarters of university students (74.6%) had poor practice about protective measures against COVID-19 and 25.4% good practice compared to post telehealth nursing intervention, the good practice level was highly significantly improved (71.4%), and poor practice was 28.6%.
 There was a statistically significant relationship between student’s age, academic year, gender, residence and their level of knowledge about COVID 19.  There was no statistically significant relationship between student’s sociodemographic data and their level of protective measures practice against COVID 19. The study concluded that There was a significant improvement in students’ knowledge level and mean score about COVID 19 post the telehealth nursing intervention compared to pre intervention. Furthermore, students’ level of practice and mean score of each protective measures regarding COVID 19 improved significantly after telehealth nursing intervention compared to pre intervention. Additionally, there was a statistically significant relationship between student’s age, academic year, gender, residence and their level of knowledge about COVID 19. Recommendations Focused on the results of the current study, it was recommended that:-Telehealth nursing intervention focused on increasing COVID-19 awareness are required, especially for vulnerable groups in order to improve their preventative behaviors. Healthcare professionals are highly urged to use telehealth nursing strategies as a viable option for preventing and controlling COVID-19 infection.  The findings of the study highlight the significance of enhancedstudents’ information related COVID-19 through reliable platforms and sources.
